Use of Silver Nanoparticles for the Development of Functional Textiles
Keywords:
Nanotextiles, Silver nanoparticles, superhydrophobicityAbstract
In this research work the results of the preparation functional cotton nanotextiles containing silver nanoparticles (NPs Ag) with different sizes are presented. The incorporation of nanoparticles was reached using in-situ chemical reduction synthesis; within the results the superhydrophobic property was developed, on cotton fabric, as a function of different sizes of nanoparticles and with the surface modification with Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS). Using three reducing chemical agents as: ascorbic acid, sodium borohydride, and sodium citrate; it was possible to vary the nanometric size NPs Ag on the cotton fabric. The formation and nanotextiles properties were verified using different characterization techniques: UV-Vis spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The superhydrophobic property was verified using contact angle measurement with ImageJ software.
