International competitiveness and export performance
Keywords:
Exports, International competitiveness, Export perfonmanceAbstract
The Export Performance of a nation, country or sector, defined as the relative success or failure of the efforts to sell its goods and services in other nations, has a relationship with the evolution of exports composition during a given period, measured in terms of exports products diversification, destination markets and number of firms exporting. Also, continuity of firms in the exports market contributes to the development of new products for export and the effective insertion in new destination markets.
Overall, a positive evolution of Export Performance is related to competitiveness of exports in terms of dynamic integration of countries and products to international markets (Dussel, E.; 2001). According to this theory, an industry adds competitiveness if its participation in international commerce increases (Máttar, J.; 1999). This refers to Commercial International Competitiveness, since we will be interested in measuring the commercial aspects of competitiveness of exports.
Main goal of this investigation consists on reviewing bibliography about International Commercial Competitiveness in order to understand the different variables and indexes developed by existing bibliography to evaluate how competitive a given country, region or sector exports are. Ultimate goal will be to adapt existing indexes so as to build a competitiveness matrix which relates offer and demand conditions under the same international insertion analysis.
